A LITTLE STORY:
This piece was made on raw canvas, I find it interesting the way natural canvas soaks in the pigment, and appreciate the raw beauty. Pokeberry, the vivid pink ink you see in "company", has been used for ink for centuries. Civil war soldiers would use it to write letters home, it is medicinal and poisonous and is also sometimes called inkberry. I used French marigolds from the garden. I watched them grow into big bushes and changing petals from deep burgundy to vivid yellow with the changes of the weather. I would step barefoot into the garden for my daily routine and observe these beauties. I watched the pollinators enjoy them too, they made good company.
A NOTE ON WILD BOTANICAL INKS:
These inks are one of a kind, alive and changing. Because of their wild nature each ink will change with time. I choose to celebrate this wonder and delight in the beauty of changing color. For best preserving of color I recommend keeping these pieces out of direct sunlight. Putting the piece behind UVA protected glass is a good option if color change is a concern.
